The other day, my sibling asked who my best friends are. I thought for a second and realized my closest friends aren’t just people I grew up with, but also those from completely different places and backgrounds—thanks to the gospel. It’s pretty amazing how God brings people together!
Jesus, the ultimate friend
What’s cooler than knowing the Creator of the universe wants to be your friend? Jesus didn’t come just to save us, but to be close to us. He told His disciples, you’re not just my servants anymore—you’re my friends (John 15:15). That’s the kind of friendship we get to have with God through Jesus. And one of our biggest jobs as Christians? Helping others become friends with Him too.
Friends on a mission
When we tell people about Jesus, we’re inviting them into something way deeper than they might expect. Sure, we’re talking about eternal life, but we’re also talking about making true friendships—both with God and with each other. Paul, one of the Bible’s MVPs, didn’t just preach and bounce. He stayed, connected, and genuinely cared for the people he was reaching (1 Thessalonians 2:8). Friendship, real friendship, is a huge part of sharing our faith.
Keeping your distance?
But let’s be honest—sometimes we shy away from really getting close to people, especially those who are different from us. Maybe it’s because we’re scared of getting hurt or feeling awkward. But holding back means missing out on the awesome friendships God wants to create. The more diverse our friendships, the more we show the world how powerful and beautiful the gospel really is.
Is it worth it?
Absolutely. Yeah, making friends can be risky. People might disappoint you, and you’ll definitely have some tough moments. But trust me, it’s worth it. The friendships that come from sharing your life and faith with others are priceless. They’re a sneak peek of the community we’ll have in heaven with Jesus.
Go make friends
When Jesus told us to go out and make disciples, He was also telling us to go out and make friends. Wherever you are—in school, on social media, or even on a mission trip—remember that sharing Jesus means building real relationships. Let’s go make friends for Christ!
