In 2012, Pastor John Piper posted a tweet that quickly went viral:
God is always doing 10,000 things in your life, and you may be aware of three of them.
Life can feel overwhelming. When things don't go as planned or when you're facing tough situations, you might wonder, "What is God doing in all this?" The truth is, God is constantly at work, doing thousands of things in your life, even if you can only see a few of them. Let’s dive into how God is active in your life and why you can trust Him, even when you don’t have all the answers.
God's infinite wisdom
God sees the whole picture, while we often only see a tiny part. Romans 11:33 (NIV) reminds us of this: “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!” This means God’s wisdom and decisions are way beyond what we can understand. Just like a skilled artist working on a masterpiece, God is shaping your life in ways you can’t always see.
Think of it like a puzzle: you might only see a few pieces, but God sees the entire picture. He’s working behind the scenes, and you can trust His perfect plan.
God's love in every situation
It’s easy to doubt God’s love when things go wrong. But no matter what, God’s love is at the center of everything He does. Romans 8:28 (NIV) says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” This means that even when life feels tough or unfair, God is working it all together for your good.
Remember that God's love doesn’t always mean things will be easy, but it does mean that everything He allows into your life is for a reason. Hebrews 12:6 (NIV) reminds us, “The Lord disciplines the one he loves.” Sometimes, God uses difficult moments to grow us, just like a coach challenges an athlete to improve. His love is shaping you into who you are meant to be.
Trusting God’s sovereignty
Have you ever felt like life is out of control? The good news is, God is always in control, even when things seem chaotic. Job 42:2 (NIV) says, “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.” God’s plans are unstoppable. No matter what happens, nothing can interfere with His purposes for your life.
When you trust in God’s sovereignty, it gives you peace in the midst of uncertainty. You don’t have to know the outcome of every situation to trust that God is guiding you. Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV) encourages us to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” God’s control means that even the toughest times have meaning, and He will lead you through them.
Seeing God at work
The reality is, God is always doing more in your life than you realize. It’s easy to miss all the ways He’s moving because we’re often focused on our immediate circumstances. But just because you can’t see God working doesn’t mean He’s not there. Think about a seed planted in the ground—it takes time before you see any growth, but the work is happening beneath the surface.
So, even if you can’t see the 10,000 things God is doing, you can be sure He’s at work. Keep your eyes open for the small ways God is moving. Whether it’s an encouraging word from a friend, an unexpected opportunity, or peace in a hard time, God is weaving together His plan in your life.
A challenge for you
Here’s a challenge: start a journal and write down one thing each day that you believe God is doing in your life, even if it’s something small. Maybe it’s the way He provided peace in a tough situation, or how He brought the right people into your life at the right time. Over time, you’ll be amazed at how God is working, even when it seems like nothing is happening. Trust that God is doing 10,000 things in your life, and choose to focus on the ones you can see.
As you do this, remember Proverbs 16:9 (NIV): “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” God’s plan for you is bigger than anything you can imagine. Keep trusting Him, even when life feels uncertain. He is doing more than you can see—10,000 things and more!
