Are you nervous about sharing your faith?

If you’re anything like me, you know that you should be talking to your friends about Jesus, but when it comes down to it you find it really difficult.

Maybe you’re not even sure why you should share the Gospel.

Over two articles, we’re going to look at four reasons why you should talk to your friends about Jesus. Here's the outline:

1. Evangelism is part of God’s Big Plan
2. The Gospel is Good News
3. Jesus is Lord
4. God commands us to Go

1. Because it’s part of God’s Big Plan

God’s plan throughout Scripture and history is to save people for Himself. He sent His Son Jesus Christ to be punished in our place and to make us right with God through faith in Christ. God wants us to be His ambassadors to all nations so that “the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea” (Isaiah 11:9).

God draws sinners to Himself through faith in Christ by the preaching of His Word and the witness of His people. It’s through us that people learn about Jesus and are invited to put their trust in Him.

Since this is what God has in mind and how He is working in the world today, then if you are a Christian, and you want what God wants … then you will want to be part of God’s Big Plan by sharing the Gospel. It might not be easy, but at least you know you want people to know the gospel.

The challenge is to get out there and do it – be bold and courageous as you point your friends toward the God who saves.

2. Because it’s Good News

The Gospel is not something to be ashamed of.

The Greek word for ‘gospel’ literally means “good news”. God saves sinners = good news!

We have been rescued from sin and death through Jesus’ death and resurrection. According to Ephesians 2, we were dead in our sins, but now, by God’s mercy, we are alive in Christ. There’s nothing we can do to earn any of this. It is God’s gift to all who trust Jesus.

This is good news for every person, from every nation, suburb and street. No matter who they are or what they’ve done, they can be set free from sin and death, and made truly alive by trusting Jesus.

If we believe the gospel is good news, then we will want to stand up, shout out and invite people to celebrate with us and share in God’s generous gift!

In the next post, we'll take a look at reasons 3 and 4.
