Are you called to missions? image

Ever get that feeling you might be called to “go out into the world” and do something epic? Maybe you picture yourself sharing the Gospel with people in far-off lands, or maybe you just really like the idea of trying new foods. (Nothing says “mission trip” like mystery meat skewers, right?)

But seriously, how do you know if God’s calling you to missions? And what does that even mean?

What even is a “calling,” anyway?

In the Bible, when God “calls” people, it’s a big deal. Think burning bushes, angel visits, or a voice from the clouds. But today, God often speaks to us through the Bible, other people, and a tug on our hearts. You don’t need a megaphone from heaven to get a sense of what God wants for you.

Mission: Possible (for all of us)

Guess what? If you’re a Christian, you’re already called to share Jesus. That’s right – you’re a “missionary” wherever you are, even if the furthest you’ve traveled is the school cafeteria. Jesus told us, “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). That includes your school, neighborhood, or even that one friend who thinks all Christian music sounds the same.

But what if I’m supposed to go somewhere wild?

Maybe you feel a specific pull toward people in another country, or maybe you’re just really into travel vlogs. How do you know if that’s from God? If you’re feeling led, start praying and ask God to make it clear. He could be planting a seed in you for something big. Or, maybe He’s getting you ready to serve in ways you’d never expect. Either way, keep an open mind – God’s plans are rarely boring.

Missions start at home

Before you pack your bags, remember: missions begin right where you are. Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few” (Luke 10:2), which is a fancy way of saying there are people everywhere who need to hear about God. So practice your “missionary skills” at home, in your school, and even with that annoying sibling. Who knows? You might find yourself on the wildest mission field of all: your own family dinner.

Pray for direction

If you’re wondering about missions, start by praying for God’s guidance. Ask Him to give you hints, open doors, or even a giant neon sign if that’s what you need. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart…and He will make your paths straight.” Whether that path leads you to the ends of the earth or just the next town over, trust that God knows exactly where He wants you.

Ready, set, go!

If you’re feeling ready to explore, talk to your youth leader or someone who’s been on a mission trip. Ask all your questions (even the weird ones), get involved in service projects, and see where God takes you. Whether you end up on a plane or just learn to love and serve people better at home, remember: God’s got amazing plans for you.

So, are you ready to go wherever God leads? Just don’t forget your passport, and maybe pack a sense of humour for the journey!
